Burkina Faso inaugurates Thomas Sankara Mausoleum in Ouagadougou
Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 has inaugurated the Thomas Sankara Mausoleum in Ouagadougou.
The Thomas Sankara Mausoleum is a monument commissioned by Captain Ibrahim Traore to honor the life of Sankara and his 12 comrades who were assassinated in 1987 in a French-backed coup led by Blaise Compaore.
The Thomas Sankara Mausoleum was designed by Burkinabè architect Francis Kéré.
The memorial is a pan-African place honoring Thomas Sankara for all of Africa and the world.
The Burkina Faso government led by Captain Traore built the Thomas Sankara Mausoleum to promote national values.
About fifteen facilities are constructed on the site of the Thomas Sankara Memorial including the 87-meter Sankara Tower, the mausoleum, a cable car to the Bangr weogo urban park, and a green belt for Ouagadougou.
President Captain Ibrahim Traore was born a year after Thomas Sankara was assassinated. The ancestors knew.
